What is a Main Street?
The Downtown La Porte Main Street Association (DTLP) is dedicated to the redevelopment, revitalization and preservation of downtown La Porte, Indiana. The DTLP will focus on the National and Indiana Main Street programs’ four-point approach as grounds and organization of efforts: Promotion, Organization, Design and Economic Restructuring. The DTLP will focus its efforts on a core area measured by walkability and accessibility encompassing Jefferson Avenue, State Street, and Lincolnway and between Linwood and Chicago to the East and West respectively. Those businesses within that core area will be serviced by the DTLP. Businesses within the area will be encouraged to join the DTLP through volunteerism or monetary support.
The Four Point Approach Involves:
Organization involves creating a strong foundation for a sustainable revitalization effort, including cultivating partnerships, community involvement, and resources for the district.
Promotion positions the downtown or commercial district as the center of the community and hub of economic activity, while creating a positive image that showcases a community’s unique characteristics.
Design supports a community’s transformation by enhancing the physical and visual assets that set the commercial district apart.
Economic Vitality focuses on capital, incentives, and other economic and financial tools to assist new and existing businesses, catalyze property development, and create a supportive environment for entrepreneurs and innovators that drive local economies.
